Nice, France |
I had to refresh my memory on what my last update included - it's been so long since I wrote anything. We have both been very busy lawyers, busy shuffling papers and clicking at keyboards. Life has been very full indeed.
First off since I left you - Paris, to visit the lovely Alida and her lovely fiancé, Brannavan. Like the family pet, I slept at the foot of their bed in their one bedroom apartment near Rue Montorgueil, a bustling Parisian market street lined with patisseries, grocers and delicatessens. Both Alida and Bran had me working off my Parisian diet by taking me out on a vast walking tour of the city's better kept secrets and a few culinary hot spots. Most of the weekend was spent gossiping about weddings and life in Europe - it went too quickly!

Next, Venice for Easter. It was a well-earned break among both our busy work schedules. We went armed with loads of tips from friends who had been before, and had a truly indulgent four days eating and drinking our way around the city. High points included the spritz (Aperol or Campari with prosecco and sparkling water), cicheti from All'Arco, soft shell crab, Campo San Margherita, the back streets of the Jewish quarter, the art collection at the Peggy Guggenheim and having a practical reason to wear gumboots (it poured the whole time we were there).

Most recently, we headed to Nice, France for a long weekend to see Miss de Joux and Andy who were in Europe for a few weeks of holiday. It was brilliant to catch up and we had a great few days in Nice, drinking rose in the sunshine and wandering around. I even braved the Mediterranean for a quick swim after an early morning run, which I thought was pretty adventurous. The highlight of that trip was a giant, gold statue - about 3-4 metres tall - of a man riding a tortoise which we found in the front garden of a very pricey looking mansion in Cap Ferrat. You know you've made it when you can afford one of those.

We have also managed a few short England trips in the last few months: a day trip to Eastbourne with a walk to Beachy Head, and a short hike from Hastings to Winchelsea along part of the old Saxon Shoreway.

Finally, to cap of the last 3 months since I last wrote, I was in Singapore which involved more work than I could have thought possible to cram into 5 days. A very busy but very rewarding trip was capped off with the best two hours catching up with beautiful Sumin.

I got about 3 minutes free time and managed this snap, taken about 10 metres from the hotel |
